The Haunting

I’ve tripped and I’ve fallen

Completely oblivious to you.

Before I knew, you were calling;

Before I knew, we were saying, “I love you.”

How could I think “we” meant “us”

When love really means lust.

I used to think we would always be.

Stupid me, love knows no eternity.

At first glance, nothing is a mess.

A Common Struggle

They flow through my ears,

As water flows through a river of jagged rocks.

I blink slowly as I take them all in.

I can feel them infecting me,

A virus that doesn’t die swiftly.

My reflexes throw a block,

But the sword makes a clean cut through the flesh of my arm.

A minor scrape.

I hit them with all I’ve got,

But they return my attack with a slice across my stomach.

The sword glitters red,

And my insides seep out.

I drop to the ground on my knees.

I cradle my stomach,

Then the sword goes effortlessly into my heart.

I fall forward and am then decapitated.

I slowly get back up,

And wipe the tears from my eyes.

I take in a deep breath.

It’s amazing what words can do to a person.
